babel by r.f. kuang – a book review || an analysis on colonialism and history featuring cool magic

Babel (Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution) completely blew my mind away.

I read Babel a really long time ago, while I was knee deep in my dark academia phase, and it was utterly phenomenal. There’s no doubt that R.F. Kuang is a masterful storyteller, as clearly exhibited by The Poppy War trilogy ( which you should definitely read if you haven’t yet !!! ) but Babel took a completely different route than what I expected.

I love seeing representation in books.

Now I don’t really talk a lot about my heritage on here, *cough* mainly because I’m not that connected with it *cough* , but I absolutely adore it when I see diverse representation in media. I do indeed have those Asian roots embedded in me (specifically Indian) and growing up I didn’t exactly see myself in the characters I read about.

Best and Worst Reads of 2021

I think 2021 was a pretty great reading year for me. My reading became a lot more diverse and I discovered a lot of my favourite books this year. Also, of course, I started this blog, and when interacting with others I’ve read picked up some great reads. I also read quite a few books which I may or may not have hated, so today I thought maybe I could write this post compiling some of my most memorable reads of 2021.
