Unpopular Opinions Book Tag || ft. Suhani’s controversial thoughts on your favorite books!!

I’ve decided to crawl out from the heaps of blankets and unfinished books I’m currently drowning in, as it is once again time for my monthly reviving of this abandoned blog

HELLO HI ONCE AGAIN!!! look who spontaneously decided to actually get a post up again?!?!? I think one of the main reasons why I’ve left this blog so deserted is because I haven’t read a good book in SO LONG. I barely read any books last month ( which is so sad because I was so proud of myself for reading books during summer break LOL THAT READING RUSH BACKFIRED QUICK 🥲) so I can only come to conclusion that the ever-so-hated reading slump has finally caught up to me.

*tires screeching, gasps, and horrified screaming ensues*

I haven’t read any thing for the past three weeks AND I HAVEN’T RESORTED TO FAN-FICTION EITHER OKAY (yet…) and since my blogging niche is basically books, the not reading books part makes the book blogging part EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.

But in other news, I redesigned my blog!! I changed up the theme and a few of the graphics and I’m so glad that I decided to revamp it because this looks much much better.

Anyways coming back to the actual main part of this post – unpopular bookish opinions!!

ah the best part of blogging is definitely controversial opinions – they either hurt your soul, or you completely relate to them. Nevertheless they’re always fun. So when I came upon this tag while scrolling obsessively through the internet at 12 a.m. I was ecstatic. I just knew I HAD to try this out. ( P.S The original creator of this tag was TheBookArcher over on youtube!! )

Anyways without further ado let’s have a look at my spicy bookish thoughts ~

1. A popular book/series that you don’t like

We’re starting very strong I see.

But aside from the obvious ones I’ve mentioned on this blog countless times ( I’M SORRY RED, WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE ) I think I’d have to go with Heartless by Marissa Meyer. Yup I know,, the old “it book” of booktok and one of my favorite authors wrote it too???? Unfortunately this did not work for me. AT ALL.

My main problem with this IS THAT NOTHING HAPPENS. NOT ONE SINGLE INTERESTING THING. Until the ending which I obviously don’t have the patience to wait for. It’s dull, monotonous and just drags and drags on. Catherine is extremely stupid and I, blatantly speaking, hated her. But she can bake the most decadent delicacies so POINTS FOR THE FOOD DESCRIPTIONS. I didn’t mind Jest (actually enjoyed his character for the most part) but I felt that Jest and Catherine don’t have much chemistry. Scratch that they have ZERO chemistry.

I still did shed a tear or two when (*SPOILER*) Jest dies because the only character I actually cared about was blatantly murdered away. pain is fun.

2. A book/series that many people don’t like, but you love

Look, I’ve seen the goodreads reviews for this.

I’ve seen them all.

And I may have broke a little because I genuinely liked this book for the most part. Though I will admit that the plot twist came out of no where, and did it make any sense? no. not one bit. But I enjoyed the story, I LOVED the setting and the premise and I wasn’t really bothered by the weird writing too? It’s kind of what I really liked about it 🫠 The family dynamics were so fun too and it was just the perfect summer read.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person didn’t want them to end up with/an OTP that you don’t like

We’re really doing this huh.

I immensely dislike Peeta ( ESPECIALLY MOVIE PEETA ) I’m sorry but he doesn’t do anything? he’s a downright creepy stalker and I firmly believe that Katniss and him were not meant-to-be. It’s not like Gale was not any better, but still at least it would make more sense if Katniss had ended up with him instead of Peeta 💀

4. A popular genre that you hardly reach for

I almost NEVER reach for mystery or thriller (other than a few exceptions) , it just isn’t a genre for me. I get very confused while reading mystery novels as I have the attention span of a peanut and when the mystery is solved it makes no sense to me??? I’m always so confused by the end. Also Romance is a genre I’ve learned to stay far away from, through the hard way I’m afraid. I’ve had one too many experiences with trashy romance books *cough* COLLEEN HOOVER *cough* , so I’ve taken the decision to stay as far as away as I can from these two.

5. A popular or beloved character that you don’t like

I’m going to be very honest with you – there are a LOT of characters I don’t like. Especially from my recent reads- everyone just seems so unlikeable.

*glares at daisy jones and the six*

I genuinely hated every single character in this book. What’s even worse is that only two of them had proper personalities. But if I had to choose just one it’s probably be Daisy. She was so annoying and her “innocent act” was getting on my nerves by the second half of the book. *SPOILER ALERT* Billy and Daisy’s romance(?) was such a mess as well, like Daisy just HAD TO INTERFERE??? anyways Camila deserved better and I’ll stand by that for the rest of my life.

6. An author that you can’t seem to get into

Unfortunately, I cannot get into Emily Henry’s books! I think the only book I actually found enjoyable to an extent was book lovers, but I mean I was still underwhelmed by that as well. People We Meet On Vacation was the biggest letdown for me because nothing enticing happened. I can’t remember anything that happened at all in fact. Beach read was going well until the trashy second half which made me dislike the ENTIRE book. :,)

Though, Emily Henry’s new book seems AMAZING, so I’d love to read that and hopefully not be disappointed by it.

7. A popular book trope you’re tired of seeing?

Instalove. I will proudly hate that trope till the end of time. It completely ruins a book for me, and I still don’t get why authors include it?? It’s EXTREMELY unrealistic, and the main character always falls in love with love interest just for his/her looks. How shallow and conceited is that?? Also the entire “falling-in-love-with-a-stranger-within-five-minutes-of-meeting-them” is SO CREEPY and it makes no sense at all. They only have a single conversation after which the Main Character gladly decides she’s/ he’s in love. Hello??? IS THIS NOT THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER.

8. A popular book/series you have no interest in reading

Okay this may be cheating since I technically read the first book in this series around two years ago but the divergent trilogy is one I have no interest in finishing. I read divergent a very long time ago because OoOoh HyPe! And let’s just say I was immensely disappointed. It’s a classic dystopian YA book ( done poorly of course ) with bland characters, mediocre writing, and a terrible plot and frankly speaking I don’t care enough about this to finish reading the series. Also, I’ve already been spoiled for the ending of allegiant, so there’s absolutely no point in me bothering to read this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A court of thorns and roses is also one I have no interest in reading thanks to the excessive smut and it also just seems it has no plot at all. Also the hype is wayy too intimidating.

9. The saying goes that “the book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or TV show adaptation is better than the book?

  1. Heartstopper – Look, I LOVE the books okay? COMPLETELY ADORE THEM, but maybe I just enjoyed the show a teensy bit more..?? everything was just so perfect and stunning and the visuals!!! the characters!! THE SOUNDTRACK!!! It stood out to me so well and I feel like it would still be a massive hit if it wasn’t tied to comics.
  2. Catching FireThis movie is a masterpiece. Fight me. I think that the book and the movie are sort-of equal in this scenario but I just preferred the movie a bit more since I watched it before reading the book (I KNOW WHAT A SIN) I thought that I would absolutely despise this because my mindset at that time was basically – “new characters?? I don’t want new characters !!” Turns out I loved these characters even more than the original ones (oh Finnick you will forever be my number one)

I’m tagging a few people as well for this, sorry if you’ve already done it though!!

Rachel – a bookworm’s paradise

Anoushka – dipped in ink

Sophia – bookwyrming thoughts

What are your unpopular bookish opinions??? Most overhyped book you’ve ever read??? and how’s life been lately ?? ❤ ALSO, HOW WAS YOUR SUMMER??

That’s all for this post, and thank you SO MUCH for reading!!!

  1. I absolutely adored Heartless, but maybe it has to do with the fact that I read it at a younger age. (Somewhat nervous of rereading the book and hating it afterwards.) I also don’t have an interest in reading Divergent! Technically, I read the first book and loved it, but since I’ve only heard bad things about the other books, I lost all interest in reading the rest of the trilogy.

  2. Haha, I don’t like movie Peeta either. But I always have not really liked Gale for some reason. Idk why. Movie Gale to me is terrible as well. The movies are not very good to the books. (for all of you who watch ed the movies and did not read the books because you did not like them: stop! read the books, they are so much better!) Although catching fire is a good movie. My popular series I don’t want to read is Harry Potter🤣

  3. Oh wow i swear this could be a list of books I haven’t read. Besides THG I’ve read & adored those!! Although I still have to read my couple of the prequel because I’m absolutely hopeless.

I never actually got to Red, White & Royal Blue and Heartless is one of Marissa Meyers books that I still need to read. Sorry to hear that both were disappointments for you though.

I’m curious about We Were Liars & it’s definitely one of the books I want to read if I ever get my tbr under control 😅

And I kind of get what you mean about Peeta. Tbh he’s grown on me since the beginning but back when I first read the books I preferred Gale…until he was destroyed personality wise in the finale.

I love mystery novels although I will say that they can be pretty hit & miss. I think getting the balance of a believable but surprising ending is tricky.

Let’s just skip over my failure to read Taylor Jenkins Reid still…

And yes instalove can be such a pain. To be fair I wouldn’t say its an absolute no for me as I can get on board with their being a spark between people from the start but it has to be well done. All too often I feel like instalove doesn’t have any chemistry to back it up /:

I’ve never seen Heartstopper *hides* but I do agree that THG movies are fantastic. I don’t know if I’d say the movie was better than the book for Catching Fire as I adored that & the cliffhanger ending destroyed me (this was back when I actually read books on time so I had to wait foe book 3 to release). I definitely found the final better to watch though
Don’t get me wrong I loved the book but I think seeing the capitals traps on screen helped a lot.

A recent unpopular bookish opinion for me seems to be With Fire In Their Blood being a total letdown. It has so many rave reviews & I just can’t wrap my head around why. Don’t get me wrong the concept was great yet it never hooked me & I didn’t connect to anyone.

An older one is Wish Me Dead by Helen Grant. I remember finding that pretty disturbing at times yet its Goodreads rating is super low. Although it was an arc (that I unknowingly brought at a charity shop) so idk if it was any different in that version.
