the ultimate summer checklist – books, movies, and music

The season of ice cream, relaxation, and unbearable heat is finally here!

One of the best seasons (second only to spring) has begun! Even though I live near the equator and it’s extremely hot here all year round, summer is still something that’s pretty special to me. Perhaps because it’s one of the only times when I’m not buried underneath a pile of school work… or perhaps it’s because of the surplus amount of ice cream I consume during this time.

babel by r.f. kuang – a book review || an analysis on colonialism and history featuring cool magic

Babel (Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution) completely blew my mind away.

I read Babel a really long time ago, while I was knee deep in my dark academia phase, and it was utterly phenomenal. There’s no doubt that R.F. Kuang is a masterful storyteller, as clearly exhibited by The Poppy War trilogy ( which you should definitely read if you haven’t yet !!! ) but Babel took a completely different route than what I expected.

Asian Book Recommendations 101 || a list of amazing and diverse reads you should check out!!!

I love seeing representation in books.

Now I don’t really talk a lot about my heritage on here, *cough* mainly because I’m not that connected with it *cough* , but I absolutely adore it when I see diverse representation in media. I do indeed have those Asian roots embedded in me (specifically Indian) and growing up I didn’t exactly see myself in the characters I read about.
